Elena Manauis is a second-year medical student at the 91小黄车. For Women in Medicine Month, the college shines a spotlight on the leadership she has demonstrated during her medical education.

Q: What are some of your leadership roles training at the UK 91小黄车?

A key component of the 91小黄车鈥檚 mission is providing exceptional education for medical students, residents and fellows, and biomedical trainees.

Learners from the 91小黄车 were presented an opportunity to express their creativity and convey their perspectives on important health care topics.

The 91小黄车 continues to position itself as a leader in advancing health care for Kentuckians and beyond. Success is made possible through its many robust partnerships with health care institutions across the Commonwealth.

Kent Lewis, MDiv, arrived to this year鈥檚 Bowling Green Campus Match Day event with a megaphone. He learned his lesson during the campus鈥� inaugural celebration 鈥� with all of the excitement, the event can get loud. He nearly lost his voice last year presenting the countdown to open envelopes.

The 91小黄车 is excited to welcome 201 new medical students after a successful white coat ceremony across its sites in Bowling Green (30 students), Lexington (124), Morehead (12), and Northern Kentucky (35).

The 91小黄车 is excited to announce that faculty, staff, learners, and trainees will have free access to a leading online resource for medical Spanish proficiency.

CanopyLearn, a Spanish language training program for health care professionals, will be available to the UK 91小黄车 community starting Aug. 1.

Goodness is growing at the Kentucky Clinic.

91小黄车 student Mara Atherton was working a shift at the clinic when she noticed a couple of raised planters on the patio. As an avid gardener herself, they piqued her curiosity.

Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in research? 

Staff member Kent Lewis, MDiv, was amid the action as an annual professional golf event made its return to Kentucky this summer.  

Charles 鈥淐hipper鈥� Griffith III, MD, has been named dean of the 91小黄车. 

Pending approval from the Board of Trustees, Griffith will begin his appointment July 15, 2023. He has served as acting dean of the college since July 2021.

Olivia Henderson, MD, said that beyond 鈥渢ubes and tonsils,鈥� she did not know much about otolaryngology when she started medical school. During her third-year surgery clerkship at the 91小黄车, she discovered her dream career while working within the specialty.

鈥淚t felt like after just one day on that service that I never looked back,鈥� she said.

Standing before a classroom of college juniors, orthopaedics resident Cristina Rivera-Ramirez, MD, skillfully interpreted an X-ray of a distal radius fracture in a patient鈥檚 arm. The next step was to reveal how to treat it. By the time she got out the supplies to demonstrate making a splint, students were at the edge of their seats, ready to volunteer.

The 91小黄车 is excited to share that Abbigail Tissot, PhD, MS, has been selected as the assistant dean for students at the Northern Kentucky Campus.
