For as long as she can remember, Rashmi Bharadwaj, a third-year medical student, has been interested in medical advocacy work. To illustrate this, the Louisville, Ky., native shared an anecdote about an essay she wrote in the fifth grade arguing for increased health care access during the Haitian earthquake crisis. She said that was just the beginning of her journey to medicine.

Sydney Shepherd and Maya Radic are second-year medical students at the UK 91小黄车-Northern Kentucky Campus and serve as house presidents of the Appaloosa and Rhinelander Houses, respectively. In conjunction with house officers and faculty, they launched the 鈥淣ovember House of Giving鈥 initiative this year.

Anna Maria South, MD, is an addiction medicine physician who treats patients with substance use disorders. She is also an assistant professor at the 91小黄车 training the next generation of health care leaders to improve access and advance treatment.

The 91小黄车 has appointed a division chief of academic medical education 鈥 Todd R. Cheever, MD. 

Representatives from UK's four health colleges and CICHE were joined by state and local officials to celebrate the new Health Education Building in a ceremonial groundbreaking.

A ceremonial groundbreaking was held Friday for the largest academic building in the history of the University of Kentucky.

The 91小黄车 welcomes a familiar face to its neurosurgery faculty next year. Randaline Barnett, MD, will join the college and UK HealthCare as a pediatric neurosurgeon, returning to her alma mater where she 鈥渇ell in love鈥 with neuroscience and officially became the first doctor in her family.

Since graduating from the 91小黄车, Ben Mattingly, MD, has climbed the highest peaks on each continent, known as the 鈥淪even Summits.鈥 He has gone scuba diving near the Galapagos Islands. He has ridden dirt bikes in Romania. He has fished in bodies of water across the U.S. and traveled to so many countries, that he has lost count.

Sabina Warns

Sabina Warns was thrilled when her faculty mentors Campbell Grant, MD, assistant professor of urology, and Kristen Fletcher, MD, associate professor of internal medicine, asked her to join their work on a research project during her first year at the 91小黄车.

The 91小黄车 congratulates 42 medical students who were selected as members of Alpha Omega Alpha, a national medical honor society that honors those who demonstrate professionalism, leadership, scholarship, research, and community service in the medical field.

Burnout is a problem in any profession, but it is rampant in health care. This national problem has been evident recently as the COVID-19 pandemic pushed many learners, practitioners, faculty, and staff to the limit.

Over the past few weeks, first-year medical student Alexander Muto has been connecting with people and businesses in central Kentucky to help bring relief to his hurting hometown.

Muto is from Maui, an island in Hawaii that recently suffered devastating damage from wildfires. Much of the destruction impacted the city of Lahaina, where Muto grew up.
