Fellowship Program Overview

The Vascular Neurology Fellowship is a one-year clinical training fellowship accredited by the ACGME since 2013. During training the fellow is exposed to a broad clinical experience and will gain advanced knowledge in the treatment of all types of cerebrovascular disease. We have a 100% board pass rate on the ABPN Vascular Neurology Certification Exam.

The fellow will have clinical rotations on the inpatient stroke unit (a Joint Commission Certified Comprehensive Stroke Center since 2013), stroke clinic, neurocritical care, neuro-interventional radiology, neuro-rehabilitation (focused on post-stroke care), neurosonology, and research. They will also gain experience with use of botulinum toxin in the management of post-stroke spasticity. They will be provided the opportunity to attend the Wake Forest University School of Medicine Neurovascular Ultrasound Course in preparation for sitting for the neurosonology certification examination through the American Society of Neuroimaging (ASN).

The fellow is provided the opportunity to attend regional and national conferences focused on stroke care.

Endovascular Fellowship

The University of Kentucky offers an Endovascular Fellowship, which applicants may be interested in pursuing along with a Vascular Neurology Fellowship. This program is a non-ACGME accredited fellowship designed specifically for physicians interested in training in endovascular surgical neuroradiology. For more information, contact the fellowship program director, Dr. Justin F. Fraser (jfr235@uky.edu), or visit the website.
